I was thinking about this over the past few days, and just saw another post where someone was looking to run a Carfax on a car and it came up again: crowdfunded Carfax checks for the OppositeLock community.
My initial thought that is that it can be done with very little front-end effort/problems. The best site (in my opinion) for doing this is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . They allow you to use crowdfunding for whatever you want - and it's simple to do.
My thoughts would be that once the money has been collected (continues to be collected as an on-going effort) how is it determined who ahs control of the money for the Carfax reports?
I think this is a GREAT idea and that everyone could benefit from it. And I think it's safe to say that everyone would be happy if there's a way to make this work.

Do we need to discuss the fact that the clarity provided by the actual carfax report does not match the clarity in the carfax marketing material?

Would be awesome, but as with any free service, people would abuse it.
We need to have someone keep Jalop points and they can be transfered for use as Carfax reports.

While I agree with this statement, its still way better than any other alternative, including no carfax of any kind

Should be common knowledge among Jalops/Opponauts that Carfax is merely a tool and can be inaccurate if nothing is reported and not the be all end all, if running a Carfax for a friend who doesn't know better it's upto the person who requests it to explain.

I would definitely donate, I feel like a mod should be in control of this. But I think we need a way to weed out non-Opponauts from abusing this or requesting like 10 cars at a time.

McLaren: At Least its Not On Fire
(I think that's a Mclaren MP4? Honestly, I can't quite tell.)

Dude I just wrote about how we should do this. Omg. Our minds are one.

AW. Now I feel bad. I'm going to go sulk in the bad oppo-ite corner.

If it makes you feel any better, that is the car he died in.

Yeah, that's my point, I should have recognized it as a Carrera GT, THEN I would have realized what it was and not made the joke. Instead I thought it was just some wrecked McLaren.

Doesn't Carfax have a used car listing search function which includes a free carfax?

This is a really good idea, but it would require some sort of regulatory system of checks and balances so that it does not get abused.
